JUDGES

NZDE is proud to announce the judges for 2010, whose industry expertise, reputation and knowledge of cattle will provide spectacluar viewing. This year the five judges represent United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

FMG - Holstein Friesian NZ 2010 Centennial Show

The judge of the FMG - Holstein Friesian New Zealand Centennial Show hails from England and has a good grounding in the Holstein Friesian breed.
 
David Tomlinson and his wife Sheila own and manage the Bilsrow herd of pedigree Holstein Friesians with their son James. They live in the northwest of England, one hour north of Manchester, in an area that has a mild climate conducive to growing grass. The 200-strong Bilsrow herd is farmed on 300 acres including young stock averaging 10,000 kgs milk, 3.2% protein and 4.2% fat. The cows are housed in cubicles with TMR available all year round. They are grazed outside during summer and have a winter diet of grass silage, maize and wheat whole-crop. You can find the sires Bilsrow Jock and Bilsrow Oscar in the Cogent catalogue.
 
David has been a trustee of Holstein UK for seven years, one year as director of Breed Development and the last five years as Chairman of the Board.
 
David and family enjoy showing and always support the local events as well as national shows. David's experiences as a judge include European Dairy Event, Royal Welsh, Royal Highland, Royal Norfolk, Royal cornwall, Great Yorkshire, Royal Balmoral Northern Ireland, Agriscot, Causeway Classic Northern Ireland as well as having judged in the Republic of Ireland, France and Sweden

FMG - JERSEY NZ SHOW


 
The judge for the FMG - Jersey New Zealand Show 2010 resides at Gippsland, Melbourne, Australia and comes to the NZDE with very high credentials as a leading judge of the Jersey breed.

Rob Anderson is a fourth generation dairy farmer, milking 210 jerseys at Drouin West, in beautiful Gippsland located 90 minutes south east of Melbourne, Australia.
Rob, his wife Kerrie and three daughters, Emily10, Meg 8 & Holly 5 farm 128 hectares of dry land pasture with a herd average of,   6477 Litres  - 324kg Fat (5.0%)  - 241kgProtein (3.7%)for the 08/09 season.

The Kings Ville prefix was established in 1987 by Rob at the age of 16.
Showing of cattle is enjoyed by the whole family with success in the show ring including. Reserve Champion Cow Melbourne Royal 1993, Junior Champion Heifer Melbourne Royal 1992. Junior Champion Heifer at IDW 1993 & 1999.
Achievement in the Semex Great Southern On Farm Challenge in 2005 and 2007 with  Reserve Champion 2 year old on both occasions.

Kings Ville has graduated 2 bulls in the top 25 sires. Kings Ville Armada(2001) and Kings Ville Betahead (2009). Currently 5 Kings Ville sires are ranked in the top 200 sires.

Rob won the National Dairy Cattle Judging at Sydney Royal in 1994 and was appointed as a classifier for the Australian Jersey Breeders Society from 1995-1999.
Over the past years, Rob has judged at numerous shows across eastern Australia. Including Adelaide and Melbourne Royal 2000, Sydney Royal 2003, All Breeds Burnie Tasmania 2007, Shepparton National All Breeds 2007. NSW State Jersey show 1999 and 2008.  NSW Dairy Spectacular Bangalow 2009. All Breeds Youth Show Melbourne Royal 2009.

SEMEX  YOUTH  SHOW


 
The Semex Youth Show judge is regarded by many as an entrepreneur extraordinaire, his passion for dairy farming becomes very evident when you read his extended profile. Our judge farms in the Ngahinapouri district just south of Waikato's main city, Hamilton, New Zealand.
 
David Fullerton has been totally committed to the Dairy Industry all his life. The Fullerton family, now into its fifth generation of farmers in Waikato's Ohaupo district. It's  a strict commercial approach to producing large amounts of milk combined with the latest global genetics has seen Waipiri the highest yielding herd in New Zealand this past year. Currently 220 hectares of fertile land supports 500 cows, 150 bulls and 200 calves. As a leading supplier of AI bulls domestically with HSS Genetics, he also exports annually to various countries with China being the main destination. Embryos and live bull exports are on-going.
 
David and his wife Pip are also involved in HSS Genetics, the Synlait Group in Canterbury and various commercial activities as well. His outside interests include, after a long stint playing rugby David now coaches rugby at rep level and supports and encourages not only his two boys Alex and Dean but also the wider family with rugby, cricket. netball and tennis.

FMG - COMBINED BREEDS SHOW



The judge for the FMG - Combined Breeds Show is one of two New Zealanders participating at the 2010 NZDE, he comes with a record of being one of the most experienced dairy judges in the nation today
 
Bruce Weir owned the Meadowlands Ayrshire Stud until its dispersal four years ago, the Stud was well recognized for its combination of high type and production.

Showing was on a limited scale due to a lack of labour but over the years Meadowlands won many breed and all breed championships including two New Zealand Royal Show Championships.

On the production side Meadowlands was to the fore winning numerous awards at local and national level.

Bruce has judged at virtually every major show in New Zealand, both Ayrshire's and Interbreed. This includes all the Royal Shows in Australia and at the  renowned International Dairy Week Show in Tatura. A highlight for Bruce was when he was asked to be the judge at the Special Futurity class at the World Conference Show at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto.

Just this last February he judged at the Montbelliarde National Winter Show in Bourge, Bresse France and for some years now Bruce has done cow assessments for Semex's well respected Promate program.

FMG - AYRSHIRE NZ SHOW



The FMG - Ayrshire NZ Show judge for 2010 creates a bit of history, being the first women to judge at the NZDE. Traveling from the United Kingdom she comes with very big raps as a prominent judge of the breed.

Lisa Window-Walker of Hunnington Ayrshires U.K, has been farming with her parents Chris and Hazel Window for the last 22 years. The Hunnington herd of 150 purebred Ayrshires and followers was established in 1972 and presently consists of 42% EX and 38% VG cows.

The Window family have exported semen internationally from Hunnington Sailors- Commander, Hunnington Admiral, Hunnington Mandella and Hunnington Easlad. The genetics from these sires can be found in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Finland and Columbia.

The whole family including Lisa’s Husband of 3 years Paul Walker, have a passion for showing their cattle and over the years have numerous supreme awards won throughout the United Kingdom.

She is on the official Ayrshire Cattle Society’s judging panel, also the Ayrshire Council and has been on their breed development committee.

Both Lisa and Paul look forward to visiting New Zealand and Lisa is honoured to have been given the opportunity to judge at our prestigious show.
